How does society shape the message?

Society creates individuals the same way as individuals create society. This is reflected in the movie, “The Matrix” and in Plato’s work, “The Allegory of the Cave.” Both demonstrate how a projected reality, such as television, films and advertisements, can influence and shape an individual’s daily decisions and their behavior. Plato wrote, “When he is approaching nearer to being and his eye is turned towards more real existence, he has a clear vision”. Today, one might consider the way media is used to reflect different aspects of a person’s daily life; for example, when the media is constantly projecting how life should be or how we, as citizens, should behave. This use of technology, so artfully demonstrated in “The Matrix,” is dangerously close to defining and creating the society we live in.
